Carnaval no Rio – Marquês de Sapucaí

Miya – Spectacular… The energy of the drums, the energy of the Samba and the energy of the crowd.  We arrived at 10ish and had to jostle our way amongst the people to find a seat in the stands.  Each Samba school lasted a little more than an hour.  The costumes were so detailed and intricate.  The dancers had such passion and commitment to this event – you could see it in their moves and their faces.  The night was warm…they utilized color, sparkle, shimmer, music to keep the audience engaged.  My favorite was the eventual winner Unidos da Tijuca – their theme – Magic.  I didn’t even realize how much Carnaval was full of symbolism and how much it reflected the Brazilian history.
